There seems to be a growing divide between the White House and the two US Houses, Congress and the Senate.

The Senate have amended a Pentagon funding bill, adding rules regarding the treatment of detainees at Guantanamo. This is a huge positive step in the realisation of some change in this area. Given the huge margin (90-9), the Senate is beginning to make clear that they will not stand by and let the White House and the Executive in general continue to destroy the reputation of the US.

Of course, a cynic might also say that it was a Pentagon funding bill and that Members didn't really care about the rules, they just wanted to pass the funding. However, I think this is probably incorrect, given the emphasis placed on the new rules by John McCain.

I hope they knock down his Supreme Court candidate as well!!
